DEAD DRIFT
Sketch comedy was my first love in video production. From 1996 until about 2003 I produced, wrote, directed, shot, acted in and edited the 3 time award winning public access program “Dammit This is Stupid.” I love throwing in that “award winning” part. It seems to somehow validate the nearly 10 years I spent in a THC-induced haze making that show. After retiring DTIS, it took about two years for the video production urge to become so overwhelmingly itchy that I could no longer resist scratching it until bloody raw. But from 2006 to 2011, with the single notable exception of the award winning Senator Feelgood I steered well clear of comedy. Since the implosion of Mutually Assured Productions in late 2011, I haven’t had a lot of non-commercial video work on my plate. Then one interesting evening, my pal Matty suggested I read a one page short he’d written. It took about 30 seconds to read at the bar we were at, and I handed him back his phone (upon which he’d written the script) and said “let’s do it.” A couple of weeks later, we got together to shoot “Dead Drift,” this is the first “pure” sketch comedy I’ve done since retiring DTIS in 2003. I think it‘s a triumphant return. We’re thinking of making this into a series, so stay tuned. What am I talking about, stay tuned? Lol, no one reads this!
